Aquaman Squeely

Check out this adorable Aquaman bath toy now available through Hallmark. Not sure why the Sea King needs a ride, but who cares when the toy is so cute!

Itty Bitty Aquaman

F.O.A.M. member emeritus Russell Burbage sent me a package the other day, and included was this Aquaman, which is truly Itty Bitty! It's part of a whole line of DC and Marvel characters (multiple licenses across one product? Holy Mego!) in this form. As the kids say, totes adorbs! Thanks pal!

Super Heroes Vitamins Health Tips

I found this via a Google search the other day, and I'm confused because I can't figure out exactly where it came from.

There was a DC-specific World's Greatest Super Heroes Health Tips book, which the Shrine talked about way back in 2007. I have that book, and it doesn't feature this image at all--so what is it? The same book with a different cover? That seems unlikely, so where did this thing run? It's clearly the work of Neal Adams and Dick Giordano, which means it's gorgeous--and Aquaman is dead center!

Aquaman Band-Aids

Did you know you can slap Aquaman (and other DC heroes) across your boo-boo thanks to these character-centric Band-Aids? It's true! The company even went so far as to run full-page ads of each character to promote the line:

Outrageous!

Justice League Mighty Meeples

I have no idea what "Meeples" are but they sure as cute! You can get all seven original JLAers plus the Hall of Justice, a building J'onn J'onzz is completely unfamiliar with!

Justice League of America Book Cover

F.O.A.M.er Jim Bal sent in pics of this super-cool foam book sleeve, featuring George Perez's superb cover to Justice League of America #217 as its front! Jim says his daughters have been using it every year since they bought it. This issue was during the brief period after Batman left the team to form the Outsiders, but before JLA Detroit. If you haven't read these issues of the series, I suggest you pick them up, they're all quite good.

I remember when this book sleeve came out, and I thought I had posted about it on the Shrine at the time, but it somehow fell through the cracks. Thanks Jim!

Aquaman PVC Figure

This very handsome (and shiny!) Aquaman PVC figure is currently being solicited in the latest Previews. How strong is Aquaman? That grey blob he's standing on used to be a Volvo.

Super Friends Swim Set

Behold, a piece of vintage Aqua-merch I didn't know existed!

I've seen other pieces of kids' swim equipment with an Aquaman-centric Super Friends slapped on them, but this three-piece set is a new on me. Would it have killed the manufacturer to re-cast the pieces in orange or green? I guess the answer is yes. Still, I enjoy seeing Aquaman so prominent on a piece of SF merch, since he was so often unceremoniously dumped.

DC Super Heroes Origami

Now you can practice the ancient, delicate art of origami while dispensing justice at the same time! The artist credited is named Min Sung Ku, and it looks like they did a great job, I love that clean, crisp, happy Aquaman! Head over to Amazon and pick yourself up a copy!

Does Hallmark Hate Aquaman?

F.O.A.M.er extraordinaire Russell Burbage had this series of experiences and came to a few conclusions about Aquaman and merchandising. Take it away, Russell!

I went by a Hallmark store today to buy a card for a buddy's wedding. While I was there I noticed that their Itty Bitty stuffed toys were well represented by DC: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and...the Flash. Hmph. Their Christmas ornaments were likewise Wonder Woman and Batman (again?). If they ever make a Keepsake ornament of Aquaman I would be all over that like white on rice. Oh, well.

Then they had some illustrated story-books that featured...Batman. Although I have found a Super Friends book there before and actually bought it for my friend's son, it's no longer available. Hmmph. Birthday cards feature Batman, Superman, the Flash, and Green Lantern for the boys, and Wonder Woman was there for the ladies. Hmmph.

As I was walking out, my eagle-eyes spotted the great orange & green uniform...! I grabbed up the attached sticker pad, and then thumbed through it. Although Aquaman is clearly on the cover...he is not one of the stickers. Instead, his place is taken by--Shazam!?! Green Arrow!?! (okay, he's on TV, so I'll give him a pass). Firestorm!?! Martian Manhunter!!??!!

The second page features some bad guys, including...Black Manta!?! What the what...?!? Aquaman isn't featured, but his arch enemy is!?! Did Disney make this?!? Aquaman is featured on the Connect-the-dots page, in the exact same pose as on the cover. Lord have mercy.

Aquaman Underoos

By popular demand, Underoos are back baby, in "adult" sizes! Festooned with glorious JLGL (PBHN) art on the package, you now can go to sleep dressed just like Aquaman is in the comics--everyone recognizes that big black A he's had over his heart lo the past seven decades! I'm kidding of course, but given Aquaman's current costume, there is a certain amount of resemblance seen here. *Ahem*

Head over to Underoos.com to see all the new sizes and characters available!

Sideshow Toys Aquaman Statue

As the little card at the bottom indicates, this is the prototype for Sideshow Toys' Premium Format Aquaman Figure that was on display at the 2015 SDCC.

We covered it over on the Shrine's Twitter feed at the time, but I'm lazy so we're just getting to it now. Thanks to newest F.O.A.M.er Michael Williamson for reminding me and for sending this pic!

Justice League Coloring Set

F.O.A.M.er Ilke Hincer sent me a link to a Hake's auction for an item I had never seen or heard of before--a 1960s Justice League of America Coloring Set!

Hot on the heels of the Filmation cartoons, there was a brief explosion of JLA-related merchandise, with the Martian Manhunter even getting in on the action, as you can see above. Most of them featured painted portraits of our heroes, which give these items a distinct, almost Norman Rockwell-esque look.

Almost all the images you were meant to color are taken from DC comics at the time, and the group shot is the only one with Aquaman. Still, an amazing item, and I love that eight + years into the Shrine there are still new pieces of Aqua-merch to find. Thanks Ilke!

Post Script: They are putting one of these out in tandem with Batman v Superman, but all the colored pencils are brown. Thank you, I'm outta here!

JLA Plate by Glenn Orbik

During the heyday of the Warner Bros. mall stores, there was tons of merch produced with Aquaman on it, some of which I'm still discovering to this day. Case in point, this collector's plate of the then-JLA by legendary painter Glen Orbik (who unexpected passed away earlier this month). A really nice piece, but how is Batman doing what he's doing, exactly?

Aquaman Pencil Sharpener

sg
Another heretofore unknown piece of Aqua-Merch, sent in by F.O.A.M.er John Shirley--an Aquaman pencil sharpener!

Now, the sharpener seen above is not part of this line, so where did it come from? You have assume there were also ones for Superman, Batman, etc., but who knows? Also, why the heck is the Aquaman art from his Mego box on here?!? Questions, questions!

All I do know is, if I had had this as a kid, I would have brought it into school and never would have had to get up to use the classroom pencil sharpener again. Also, I would have been beaten up many, many times.
