We originally planned to run a recap of Aquaman and the Others #10 in this spot, but we've decided to postpone that until next Saturday to discuss the huge news DC released yesterday!
Starting with Aquaman #41, the book's new creative team will be writer Cullen Bunn and artist Trevor McCarthy, whose stunning work you see above. DC will be dropping the "New 52" moniker, relaunching several titles and starting some new ones.
The New 52 Aquaman has been extremely fortunate, creatively--to start with Geoff Johns, Ivan Reis, Joe Prado, and Rod Reis was awesome enough, but then Jeff Parker, Paul Pelletier, and Sean Parsons quickly established their own take on the character and made it their own. But all good things and all that, so let's all welcome Mssrs. Bunn and McCarthy to the Aqua-Community, and let's enjoy Aquaman by Parker, Pelletier, and Parsons while we still have it!

What's the reason behind the 3P's leaving the book? Loved their run. I do like Bunns work on Sinestro though so I'm keen to see what he does with Arthur & Mera.
This suck!
Ill be searching for interviews to see what Bunn has in store for Aquaman, and I'm deeply excited to see his take though I've enjoyed Parker's. Im a bit concerned that Bunn will be writing 3 books however.
Its nothing personal Gareth -- Parker's run was both well received by fans and critically acclaimed. But sales of AQUAMAN (as well as with the majority of DC's line)continue to suffer from attrition and with the market shifting away from the "house-style" books that dominated the New 52, DC is breaking from the imprint in June in an attempt to reach a broader more "inclusive" group of readers. So while there will be 24 new #1's DC has decided to continue the numbering of successful ongoing titles like AQUAMAN (which speaks to honoring the investment fans & prior creators have made in these titles) but still needs to create a market buzz in order to get new readers jumping on the series and boost sales. What's the best way to do that without a new #1 (which actually has not been that effective with titles like New Teen Titans and All-New Suicide Squad)? Instead you go with a new high-profile creative team(which actually has been effective for DC on titles like Wonder Woman and Superman)and thus we have Bunn & McCarthy on #41 and beyond.
We chatted with Jeff Parker yesterday and he's happy that his run on AQUAMAN is going to end strong and in a planned manner (unlike Geoff Johns' run which was cut abruptly short due to DC's reassignment of writers.
One final note, the art that McCarthy posted is a sketch from his personal archives, not preview art as some sites are reporting. McCarthy teased that when the new team debuts, Aquaman will have an updated look, presumably designed by himself.
Thanks for the nice article and thorough follow-up in the comments. Let's hope that the change revives the sales. While we loyal readers know the 3P's run has been fabulous, it has been distressing to see the sales fall.
I'll be interested to hear what ideas they have in mind for the book going forward. I was enjoying how Parker was taking a look into Atlantis political structure, etc. Plus the Malestrom story with his mother has been good so far.
Didnt know they'll update Arthur's look. Hope they stick with the Orange, Gold, and Green. Not big on hI'm wearing black. Do think his pants need to be changed tge plain green tights are pretty bland.
Hopefully the coming movie prominence of Aquaman will also keep things going for the title.
This sketch is gorgeous — better than the current art team, IMHO. Looking forward to the new team!
I have loved the 3P's run. It's done such a great job of building up the Aquaman mythos while delivering some fun action. Seriously we couldn't have hoped for more.
It really surprises me how great Aquaman has been since the relaunch. It'll be exciting to see what the new team has to add. I've got high hopes.
