JLA Flashback #3

sg
Justice League of America #156 - July 1978. Cover art by Rich Buckler and Frank Giacoia.

Yet another Justice League cover with Aquaman possessed by a spirit, collapsing with his fellow JLAers surrounding him. I wonder if this was one of Julie Schwartz's sure-fire cover concepts, like apes and the color purple?

JLA-Flashbacks are fun.

Was purple a Julie cover ploy? I was just noticing, reading some DC comics from the late sixties/early seventies, how new costumes often had purple in them, sometimes mixed with green. Of course apes I totally get, I'm all over any ape-related comics.

It was smart of Aquaman to pass out where Black Canary could catch him, I'd do the same in his place.

I've also heard the Julie Schwartz was convinced that Apes and purple = SALES! I can only imagine that the debut of Grape Ape made his head explode.
