Famous-Heroes Color and Play Stand-Ups

sg
A couple of weeks ago, F.O.A.M.er Delmar Osborne sent in a pic of some "mystery" stand-ups that were eventually identified as a mid-1970s Colorforms "Color and Play" set.

A few days ago, Delmar found a set of the stand-ups, along with the package, on display at the Hollywood Americana Museum in Metropolis, IL. Unfortunately for Delmar, it wasn't for sale, but he was kind enough to snap a picture.

Via an eBay auction, here's a better shot of the stand-ups in their original form:

Its a darn shame neither Aquaman or Aqualad are pictured on the box--if I was that kid I would not look as happy!

OMG--I loved Colorforms! If I'd known there was a set featuring Aqualad back then, you know I'd own it, but I don't ever recall seeing these. Totally cool! (I wonder if the images still stick after all this time)?

Loved Colorforms, too, but I don't remember these items at all!

These weren't the traditional colorforms. they were standups that you could color and recolor. I finally won my set yesterday on ebay. :o)

"Famous Heroes"...that is odd. I never saw any DC (or Marvel) item released under that nme until now.

Lots of great vintage artwork there.

Batman, Robin, Aquaman, Aqualad, Superboy and GL look to be new work by Murphy Anderson, just for this set. The rest is modified pick-up art, it seems (which Anderson also contributed to).

Rob, isn't the kid on the box actually coloring Aqualad????

I had these as a teen....I must have thrown them all away except for Aquaman and Aqualad, which I believe I left in Japan somewhere. They were drawn (maybe by Anderson; not sure) in the look of the Filmation show.

Russell--I couldn't quite tell, even after 180ing the image and blowing it up. But it sounds good to me!

Wow - I got these as a kid for an Easter present when they first came out. I've thought of them from time to time, but assumed I'd never see them again anywhere. You could color on the wax surface and then wipe it clean to start over (sounds like some of you already know that). Since they predate everything except Mego, these WERE my action figures for quite a while :)

Greetings to all of you Aquaman and Aqualad collectors. I just posted a Mint Colorforms set on Ebay. Never used, even includes the original crayons. Listed with a Buy It Now Price. Hope that they will go to a good home that will appreciate them.
