I've always been so conflicted about Arthur's telepathy/mind controlling. It makes for epic scenes of rising out of the water on whaleback or whatever, but it also means that all these awesome natural foes (sharks, giant squid, seamonsters) are rendered docile without convoluted explanation.
What is that huge toothy thing behind him?!? Is that a giant moray eel or a mola mola?!
