Brightest Day #8 - Oct. 2010

sg
Comics Weekend "Defiance" by Geoff Johns, Peter J. Tomasi, Ivan Reis, Pat Gleason, and more.

This issue of Brightest Day does not feature Aquaman or Mera (or even the new Aqualad) in even one panel, so I'm going to basically skip any real recap of the events contained herein.

Not to say I don't find the various, post-resurrection adventures of Martian Manhunter, Hawkman and Hawkgirl, et al interesting--especially as to how they'll eventually intertwine with our heroes' lives--but I just don't feel the need to get into all that on the Shrine.

The final page, promising in the next issue, "Black Manta Returns!" seems to indicate that Brightest Day #9 will more than make up for the lack of Aqua-content this time around. See you all in two weeks!

Aquaman made an appearance in another DC book this week, so we'll be covering that today, as well, so please stay tuned!

That's a pretty nice cover - I like how she's not quite in a pose but also not quite in action. Dave Finch is one of the few recent artists I've quite liked, he can create a certain mood. Hawkgirl probably hasn't had a lot of solo covers.

I really tried to like this issue, even without the Aquas but it fell flat for me.

Geoff Johns seems like he took the week off (and Ivan Reis as well)...hopefully they will make up for it in #9 & 10 and really start to progress the storyline of Aquaman, Mera, Black Manta, Siren, and the new Aqualad!

Here's to hoping the next issue makes up for the lack of Aqua-content!
