Aquaman The Movie, For Reals?

In an amazing coincidence (considering today's original post and the contest), I was just sent this link fromThe HollywoodReporter.com, featuring an article about DC Comic book movies.

And on page 2, we have this:

"
The studio is taking pitches on sci-fi hero Adam Strange and the underwater-breathing hero "Aquaman," to be produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and his Appian Way shingle."

An Aquaman movie, produced by Leonardo DiCaprio? Even though its highly doubtful DiCaprio would play the Sea King (and personally, I wouldn't want him to anyway), having such a Hollywood heavyweight behind the project would make it more likely to happen, than, say, if just DC was pushing it.

This link was sent to me by our newest F.O.A.M. member, Nick Karr, who in his email said: "I have been looking for something to submit for days to get into FOAM. My friends make fun of me for loving Aquaman but I've loved him since I was a kid."

Well, look no more Nick, and the next time one of your friends makes fun of you for liking Aquaman, shove the F.O.A.M. certificate in their face!

1. Leonardo as Aquaman??? Please, no!

2. He was the biggest draw on Smallville. The Mercy Reef pilot was a smash. All the publicity from Entourage. What's wrong DC???

OK, got those 2 things out of my system.

Anyway, I hope they pull it off. If the other comics movies they're working on pan out, great. If not, Aquaman the Movie will never fly/swim.

I mean, what's wrong with DC???

R Duncan: as evidenced by the crap DC is publishing right now, there is a LOT wrong with DC. (sigh)

Well, Marvel is just beating the stuffing out of DC in every area except (maybe) comics right now. TV shows? They've got a pretty solid Spidey, a not-terrible X-Men, and they are coming out with an honest to goodness classic Avengers toon. Movies, they've got amazingly good entries for Iron Man, Hulk, and there is promise in the upcoming solo movies for the rest of the Avengers. DC? They've put out one great Batman movie, one mediocre Batman movie that should have been TWO films, one fairly boring Superman movie (a movie about a guy who can toss cars around, and it is boring? Quite an accomplishment), not to mention embarrassments like Catwoman....

WB is the albatross around DC's neck. Yeah, they provide them with resources, but they also have no investment in the characters of the company. Instead, they are just one more property to be abused. I would LOVE to see an Aquaman movie...but I just can't see the idea turning out well given the current climate. I would kill to be proven wrong, though.
