AquaSketch by Rich Buckler - 2008

sg
With the 2009 New York Comic Con just around the corner, it occurred to me I still haven't gone through all the sketches I got at the last New York show!

Normally, I like to spread them out between cons so I don't go too long between sketch posts, but I've been a tad stingy so here's a great piece I picked up by the legendary Rich Buckler, who has drawn pretty much every DC and Marvel superhero there was in the 70s and 80s.

As a kid, I was always happy to see Rich's name in a comic book's credits, because I enjoyed his solid, exciting work. Even better, Rich himself has been a real pal to me and my efforts as a budding Comics Historian, doing an interview with me for my JLA Satellite blog, as well as always being available to answer some random, geeky question I had about a book I had that featured his work.

So I was thrilled to have the opportunity to meet him in person at the 2008 con, thank him for his help, and shove my AquaSketchbook in his face. The next day, he handed this piece back to me, which is Classic Buckler. Way cool!

Yeah, that IS a cool sketch.

By the way, Rob, I LOVE the way you've updated your links on the right side of the blog. Way cool. I especially like Aquaman with the sunglasses, and the logos for the various books he's appeared in.

russell-

thanks for noticing. i thought the Shrine needed a little sprucing up visually, so i added those and got rid of the image borders in the posts, which i think is more pleasing to the eye.

i want the Shrine's old content to be more immediately accessible, so i'm trying to find important elements and give them their own big splashy link so people can use the blog as a reference if they need to.

Wow...that is just a beautiful sketch. We need an artist with that kind of dynamic simplicity on Aquaman!

Yeah Rob, the Shrine is looking better than ever!

An excellent sketch. Nice to see it. Rich Buckler is a favourite artist of mine too, and draws a great Aquaman as well.
