Puffy Sticker - 1971

sgThis is a fun little (about 1x1") puffy sticker that was included in a set of Super Friends stickers. The odd thing is, as you can see it's copyrighted 1971, which is two years before Super Friends went on the air...?

Rob,

I think it's dated 1971 because that's when Murphy Anderson drew most of the "circle" art pics like that. Flash, Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, etc. They were used on the comics at that time, and throughout the 70s/early 80s on EVERYTHING else, but I'm sure you know that.

You'll see Jose Luis Garcia Lopez-drawn licensing art used on products made well after 1982, but they still have that copyright on it, because that's when the registered it.

I have that sticker too!

that makes sense. the stickers were already around, and when SF debuted licensors thought why bother make new stickers? just get the old ones, put 'em in a bag and slap a SF log on top. done and done!

Nuthin' says 70's like puffy stickers...except maybe that engine turned iridescent look that was also popular then.
