War of the Water Worlds CD-Rom Comic - 1996

sgThis is an odd little item--a CD-Rom "comic book" composed of panels from the 1960's Filmation Aquaman cartoon series. You clicked on a panel and it would play a clip of the animation, with sound, until you reached the next panel (they also had CD-Roms with Superman, Superboy, and Batman, utilizing their Filmation shows from the same era).

I remember, back around this time, that there were loads of deluxe (and not-so-deluxe) CD-Rom sets, since it seemed at the time they was going to the wave of the future. They weren't. This was just before the internet really exploded into almost every corner of daily life; once it did these non-updatable, not-quite-a-game-but-not-quite-a-book CD-Roms pretty much disappeared from the shelves.

I've always wondered why, for the Filmation shows, they added black boots to Aquaman's costume. Just one more detail to have to draw...

This is a really neat item. The interactive panels were fun and it was pretty impressive for the time. It would be nice if someone put an application like this online.

Okay, so this is cool. I just got my old CD out to see if it would still play on a different Windows platform. It did.

The cool thing is that I had forgotten the main villain's name is "Shag"! Yay for me trying to plunder Aquaman's kingdom!
