Adventure Comics #279 - Dec. 1960

sg
Comics Weekend "Silly Sailors of the Sea!" by Robert Bernstein(?) and Ramona Fradon.

It's Adventure Sunday!

As if Aquaman wasn't busy enough...

Suddenly the silly sailors see sea serpents surfacing! They promise to learn more about sailing before ever venturing out again, which leads Aquaman to believe they may have finally learned their lesson. Of course, these aren't really sea serpents--they are figureheads from sunken viking ships brought to the surface by Aquaman's finny friends.

Once the "sea serpents" disappear, however, the boys forget their promises and decide to press on:

...and so ends another adventure for Aquaman and Aqualad!

Luckily, this band of teenage dumbasses never appeared again. I can only hope they were all killed in the Crisis.

That said, I bet Aquaman was glad to have such an easy case to deal with, considering how busy he was across the DCU around this time: after this adventure, he and the JLA took on a sinister sorcerer in Justice League of America #2, made his headlining debut in Showcase #30, then helped Superman put one over on Lois Lane (Batman must have wanted the month off) over in Action Comics #272, all before returning back in the next issue of Adventure Comics, which we'll cover next week! Whew!

Is it just me or does anyone else think Aquaman taught those three teenagers exactly the wrong lesson? "We didn't have any experience and yet we survived a whirlpool and a squall and pirates...I told you it was no big deal! Those sailors are a bunch of big babies -- this stuff is easy!"

Pretty busy time for Aquaman (including helping Supes again!), especially the Showcase headlining story.

Re: Superboy: Superboy is pulled into the 50th century by a scientist's "time probe," where he learns nobody believes he actually existed.
