I've always thought he had potential.

I still stand by my comment on the Adventure comics thread; Why the Fisherman? A man with a rod and reel is the least threatening in the sea. Why is he one of Aquaman's major foes?

Well, I think the concept needs some tweaking, but a villain named the Fisherman...that's just an awesome foil for Aquaman. Plus, his look is actually pretty cool when done right. I think they should probably lose the rod and reel and make the fisherman thing a bit more of a metaphor, rather than literal.

I think the fishing rod should just be a hook on a chain-line or something--unless it's in a kid's comic where the rod is awesome--but I really like the Fisherman. I love the alien parasite/hood thing, I love the hipwaders, I couldn't love the dude more really. So pumped about his ancestor's(?) little cameo in #24 this week.

I've never understood the HATE. He's definitely no Black Manta, but he's decent Rogues Gallery filler. Aquaman, sea-going hero; Fisherman, a villain whose name evokes the idea of capturing, imprisoning, KILLING creatures from the sea...it's a natural fit. The look is kinda neat.

He needs a little Marvel-style verving up, though; like giving some nifty-swifty explanation of his weapons being motorized or exo-skeletonized or something, as I never understood how you quickly and efficiently cast a fishing line underwater.

I say keep him.
