Adventure Comics #206 - Nov. 1954

sg
Comics Weekend "The Haunted Island!" by Jack Miller(?) and Ramona Fradon.

It's Adventure Sunday!

A Sea Monster for a catcher? That Bill Veeck is at it again!:

After the baseball game is over, and with the help of his finny friends, Aquaman forms a basketball court on the surface of the water, leading the kids to having the time of their lives.

But when another kid goes near the island to retrieve an errant ball, he sees the mysterious "sea monster" again:

...and with that, so ends another adventure for Aquaman!

Those mobsters were so very helpful, explaining to the Sea King their entire plan. They could have just told him to pound kelp, which I think would have left Aquaman with nothing to charge them with. But that wasn't how crooks rolled back then. Thanks for nothing, Miranda vs. Arizona.

Fun Fact: This story was used, extensively rewritten and redrawn, for Super A, an educational kit sent by schools using DC Comics characters to help to teach kids how to read.

Fun.

After looking at the redrawn-for-more-modern-times "Super A" version, wonder if this makes the one example of an Aquaman story that took place on Earth-1 *and* -2? :-)

Re: Superboy: This issue's plot sees the Boy of Steel forced to prove the fossils of improbable creatures are actually real, or Professor Lang loses his job.

I just want to say...I supervise a callcenter, and my current shift involves working sundays. Starting my shift reading these old Adventure Aquaman stories tends to be the highlight of an otherwise blech day!

Anthony--Interesting theory! Earth Super-A, perhaps?

Tim--What a nice comment, thank you. I really appreciate that, and glad the Shrine can help!

Viva Adventure Sunday!

Black Jack, come back! We've got the same villains from every episode of Scooby Doo, now. Same monster costume, too.

Parallel Earth theoretical science 1A: Since Earth's 1 & 2 are parallel worlds with many parallel characters, it seems right that there would be quite a few parallel adventures that happened on both earth's 10-20 years apart.
