Entertainment Weekly, 7/13/2012

This article about DC's relative inability to get movies made (at least, compared to Marvel) is running in this week's Entertainment Weekly. As you can see, Aquaman is both pictured and mentioned!

Thanks to F.O.A.M.er Marc Tyler Nobleman for the tip!

Interesting. I'm hoping Man of Steel is good. It certainly seems to be more action-oriented, which Superman Returns was sorely lacking.

Love the Mego-esque Aquaman, twist-tied in his package!

Oh well. At least DC still has Robot Chicken Justice League and gay Green Lantern. (sarcasm)

? Not sure what Green Lantern being gay has anything to do with this, Rick.

To begin matching Marvel's films would require DC Comics and Time-Warner to get over its tunnel-vision obsession with Batman, and remember they have characters who aren't sulking billionaire playboys (like Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman).

Will AQUAMAN be a live-action movie reality?

We'll be looking at that possibility a little further in a post on Monday...(foreshadowing, yay!)

I really liked Green Lantern and Superman Returns. I think what happens is places like Entertainment Weekly tell people these things are not good and people not being able to think for themselves say "Yeah. That's not good." If the media would let people make up their own minds I think these movies would be better recieved.

Cool for a mention, but at first I thought Aquaman and WW were being held prisoner and it was up to Supes and Bats to free them. And I was not happy with that. Much better seeing them as 'as yet unopened' toys. :)

As someone who has unsuccessfully pitched his work to EW many times, I'm kinda frustrated at seeing pieces like this. It's a nice drawing, but I don't think it conveys the tone and meaning of the article at all.

Sorry, rob. Poor attempt at humor.

Based on the illustration color palette, it looks like we're getting an Aqualad movie!

For as much as I'd like to see DC make an Aquaman movie, I'd much rather they figure out how to make a GOOD movie. At the very least, get the executives out of the creative process.

And PLEASE, DC, no more Batman! I am so bored with Batman. I don't need to see another Batman movie, cartoon, animated feature or action figure line for a long time.

At first I thought the illustration was a Wonder Woman bondage cover.

Corey H, you can't just blame magazines like ETW. They plug super-hero movies like crazy; they WANT us to like them. I saw both the movies you mention and decided, on my own, that they sucked. :-) I do think a GL sequel would be better than the original because we wouldn't have to deal with the whole origin story, but I guess GL 2 isn't gonna happen. :-(

@russell: Of course in Entertainment Weekly's case, they're owned by Time-Warner, just like their corporate cousins DC Comics. :-p

these kind of articles kinda make me laugh. I work in TV and Film. I have done many pitches. Hollywood is always having scripts done. The percentage that make it any further than a rough draft is very very small. Fan boys love this stuff. They love hearing that such and such is getting the script treatment. Also, Hollywood isn't about art as much as a business. If it doesn't make money it doesn't get made again etc. Batman is hugely popular so it gets remade. I would love Aquaman on screen, but sadly I don't think they understand him, DC barely understands him!
