"What Box O' Mystery?" you may be asking. Well, we're talking about the box sitting on Arthur and Mera's coffee table, as seen on page six of Aquaman #2. If we pull in closer, we see a curious artifact:
Next to a toy boat and a baseball, we see what looks like an action figure or doll of some sort, with a familiar yellow "A" distinctly popping out amid the blue.
F.O.A.M.er Mac Schafer wrote in and asked what I thought this doll was supposed to be---it sure looks like Aquaman's "A", but since its on the chest of the figure, maybe it was supposed to be a Mego Star Trek figure, possibly Spock?

Confronted with a mystery as perplexing as an Agatha Christie novel, I decided to check in with the authorities: namely, artists Ivan Reis and Joe Prado, who drew the thing in the first place. Here was Joe's response: "Well, this all kinda happened by chance! LOL! Ivan drew an action figure, kinda like the old G.I. Joes, and I just added the "A" symbol to the chest to make it fun. But it's no easter-egg or anything like that, ok? :)"
A perfectly logical answer...maybe even a little too perfect. I sense The Aquaman Shrine has stumbled into some sort of secret conspiracy, and the subsequent attempts of a cover-up. And it reaches so high they even got to Prado. Clearly, further investigation is warranted.

Ha! I totally didn't even notice the mystery box...guess I might have to give back my Batman Honorary Detective Card :(
I remember playing with my Mego Star Trek Enterprise playset. Though I must confess my favorte one of the Mego line was their Planet of the Apes series of toys.
Being a big Mego fan, I love this. I had Mego Spock before I even knew what Star Trek was!!!

Star Trek Aquaman! That's a crossover I'd love to see.
Hmmm. Actually, I wrote something close to this idea during my days writing Star Trek: Voyager for Marvel. Check out "Splashdown", a 4-part mini series published in 1998. I got to sink a starship!
Of course, Aquaman would have saved them in the first few pages...
