ABC Saturday Morning Ad - 1979

sg
Man, I remember these ads like this, that touted each network's new Saturday Morning cartoon line-up.

The Super Friends was a staple of ABC's schedule, of course, running for over a decade. At the time, I was pretty jazzed that they were adding another DC show, Plastic Man, to the line-up, not to mention Spider-Woman (though even back then, I was like, "Isn't that a Marvel show?")--I was of the mind the more superhero shows, the better, especially since Scooby-Doo was in its A.S.D. period.

The part of this ad that is a little curious to me is Zan--look how angry he looks, pointing at the viewer and all! Maybe he's mad that, without his sister around, he's just kinda lame.

Finally, I'm not even going to mention that Aquaman isn't listed in the SF write-up, even though he's standing right there. Oh, wait...

Exxorian recruitment poster:
Uncle Zan wants to activate--with you!

Joan Van Ark, from "Knots Landing", was the voice of Spider-Woman. I remember her saying at the time that she was excited to be the Lynda Carter of the pre-teen cartoon set.

Damn - I remember these very well, myself. Loved seeing them and got excited for the new & returning shows each year!

I totally remember this ad, and think I probably watched all of these shows at one time or another, except for Scooby Doo (I hate all things Scrappy).

I saw Rickety Rocket not too long ago and it was kinda-vaguely-a little bit-I'm sure not on purpose racist. Ha ha! Why, even on cartoons, are the black characters always poor? I mean Fat Albert, then this?

Oh, and in today's world, could we really have a cartoon with a character call Fangpuss on Saturday mornings? Lol...
