Superman and Wonder Woman make me want to cry, but the big seven JLA is cool.

I'll be giving out copies of USAToday to everyone I see tomorrow!

Don't like the redesign of Superman and WW at all...

I'm leery of the Didio's comment that the characters will be "younger" versions. Hmmmm....
I think DC could lose a HUGE chunk of their fan base, w/o being successful with adding enough new fans to make up for us old men.

If it keeps the industry afloat, I'll be all for it, but it might look like my DC days would be behind me.

Not zero, not a mere one, but TWO regular comics with Aquaman later this year? Woo-Hoo!

Did they actually say why there were relaunching all the titles?

Wonder Woman's costume still looks god-awful and Superman will look a bit bland without the red briefs but I'll give it a read. Arthur looks great.

I am totally on board with this. I have wanted the DCU to be rebooted for a long time. A fresh start across the board is a great idea for a new time. We always can reread our favorite old tales. But a fresh beginning is so overdue. I am excited!!!

So what do you think of D.C. rebooting the entire lineup and going digital?

Also. Didn't Geoff Johns say that he thinks Aquaman should be the leader of the Justice League. And correct me if I'm wrong here but Isn't Geoff Johns writing this new Justice League book??? Hmmmmm.... I Wonder.!!

Of course, 52 #1s launching in one month--at least 10 of those being Batman and Superman family titles--that is REALLY going to cannibalize sales for Aquaman and Hawkman #1. Say goodbye to an Aquaman book in the top 10, it'll be lucky if it scrapes 50,000 units, even with its team.

Arthur's back on the A-team. That's all that matters.

So let me get this right: The DC head honchos (codename: morons) killed off as many of my Titans as possible and systematically killed off their JLA mentors just to bring the old guard back in new bodies so that they look just as young as (aw yeah!) THE TITANS?!!!

Arthur's second brand new collar of the past few months notwithstanding, I think I can resist any temptation to try the New Coke JLA.

Arthur/GL look cool... Flash looks kind of terrible... And missing some Martian Manhunter in the cast, much as Mr. Frank is (and Plastic Man for that matter, as I think of him as part of the Big 8 as Morrison had all those years ago..). Like the addition of Cyborg, even if the costume looks like someone threw up a bunch of computer parts on poor ol' Vic...

Eh, J'Onn monopolized the team for about a decade without Aquaman, so I figure it's the Sea King's turn. Besides, I'm surely getting a Martian Manhunter #1 out of the deal, and J'Onzz needs some solo time to figure out why he is. Alternately, there's always Justice League International, where he'll be a better fit, plus Cyborg is officially doomed to be the guy least wanted in the JLA. J'Onn and Arthur can high-five over dodging that bullet.

Aquaman looks good, but I'm Not liking Cyborg's or Wonder Woman's costumes. Please DC get rid of that awful WW costume, I'd rather see her all in white or alternating street clothes like her Mod era than this "costume." UGH.

Plus I see DC's tapping into their movies by giving Bats what seems to be an armored suit & GL a Gatling Gun projection. This ALL seems so superficial and NOT thought out. Extremely disappointing. :(

I for one am excited, as long as Aquaman is included. There's always going to be something that's not "perfect" but hey, that's life.

And BTW, this image is ON THE COVER of the USA Today! How awesome is that?!?

Does anyone know if that is Wally, or Barry? He looks pretty young but everyoned does in this pic. If it's not Barry, could that mean that he sacrifices himself again?

Diabolu Frank said...

I second jd on the "mod" Wonder Woman. The "Just Image Stan Lee" suit was also nice.

JD said...

Thanks Frank for reminding me of the "Just Imagine Stan Lee" WW costume, I had forgotten all about it, but it actually was a nice design from Jim Lee. Jim seems to be really hit and miss with his costume designs, the current WW one being one of his worst. If DC used Jim's Just Imagine WW design (minus the white hair streak) it'd be a vast improvement.

Aaron said...

Um, did anyone else notice that GL's Gatling Gun is coming from his crotch?

JD said...

@Ghost - Yeah it was mentioned on lots of other sites, but this whole reboot seems like a bad joke on fans & retailers, so inappropriate projection placement is somewhat mitigated by overall awfulness & dread.

Tempest127 said...

@JLASuperdude: That's Uncle Barry. (Blue eyes, not green).

Cyborg looks ridiculous; that's just too much hardware for any human being to sport. And while I'm bemoaning dumb costumes, I much preferred the previous WW costume redesign with the shrug; it did a better job of covering up her...upper-frontals, as it were. I've long figured that her major asset to the world of heroes is her continuing ability to defy gravity without use of a corset and this revamp again proves it.

JD said...

@Tempest - WW's major asset is that she's comicdom's first major feminist hero & icon, and has proven female characters can support their own solo books long term when they have for the most part decent writing & art overall and/or a probable contractual obligation to publish continually or lose the rights (lucrative merchandising included) to the character to the creator's estate. If only Aquaman's creator had made a similar contract with DC too, we'd all have alot more stories of his to love too. :)

Aaron said...

@JD- "WW's major asset is that she's comicdom's first major feminist hero & icon"... Well, maybe. If you've ever read early WW comics, the're really about SMBD more than anything esle.

JD said...

@Ghost - Name another strong independent female character that began in the 1940's and is still well known even today. There are none other than Wonder Woman; okay Black Canary did start around then too but she's obviously not as well known as WW still is today and practically no one remembers other early DC & Marvel\Atlas gals like Phantom Lady, Blonde Phantom or Venus, so it's not just a maybe. WW IS the definitive enduring female superhero. And the bondage stuff in early WW stories didn't seem to be their sole focus to me, maybe because I'm not interested in or looking for such "kinky" things, it was mostly WW rescuing male characters from dangerous situations all by herself, which was very revolutionary at that time, plus I've always loved the Greek mythology elements that have persisted in WW stories throughout the years.
