Super BB - 1978

sg
A few months ago, we talked about Super A, a Wonder Woman-centric educational "kit" dispensed to schools that used comics to help kids learn how to read.

Now
F.O.A.M. member Kyall Coulton, who sent Super A, has sent the Shrine another kit, called Super BB, which also features an Aquaman story specificially modified for this set. Here's the cover:

Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Bobo would make for quite the team-up book!

Anyway, here's the story reprinted and amended:

Like with Super A, this is an old Aquaman story that's been re-lettered and re-titled. Even the character of Dr. Mitsuma has been renamed from the original, making it difficult to figure out which story this originally was (any Aqua-Fan have an idea?).

Its clearly drawn by Ramona Fradon (with some changes by what looks like Joe Kubert), which makes it from some 1950s issue of Adventure Comics, like the one from Super A was.

Unlike Super A, though, this kit also came with some other Aqua-material, like these puzzle and learning pages:

It's from Adventure Comics #258, March 1959. Originally titled "The Incredible Fish of Dr. Danton."

If it's Wonder Woman-focused, shouldn't it be called "Super DD?"

I really think both Marvel and DC are missing an opportunity by not allowing more material like this to be used in elementary schools to help kids read. Many of my students don't even know what a comic book is anymore.

Right on, Shellhead! Hook 'em while they're young. If there were learning aids this cool while I was in grade school I probably would have found learning more fun and less tedious!

Hey, weren't Ted and Teri also characters from The Super Dictionary? They seem strangely familiar, and that's the only place I can think of that I could possibly know them from.

Bill, you are correct! I think the two projects must have been cooked up at the same time. I cannot even put into words how obsessed I am with the Super Dictionary!

I, uh, wasn't trying to make a pun by saying "words." *Blush!*

I used to have a copy of The Super Dictionary as a kid. I read it until it just about fell apart. I really need to get a new copy one of these days.

40 pies!
