Emperor Aquaman Model Sheet

This is artist Andy Kubert's model sheet for the Sea King as he appears in the upcoming Emperor Aquaman mini. It was posted today over on DC's Source blog, where you can see a larger version (click the image).

This was sent in by F.O.A.M.er Curtis Smith. Thanks Curtis!

I like the strap and extendo trident, of all things. Since it looks like the trident is becoming a permanent part of Aquaman's arsenal, a strap for him to actually keep it on his back (it's just kind of floating there magnetically in brightest day) would make a lot of sense.

Don't know what I think about it yet...

Would love to hear your honest opinion on it, Rob.

It's just for 3 months, right? Kubert says his thinking was Sgt. Rock for this, but I dunno--maybe it's the colours, maybe it's the hair--when I look at this I think "nazi". The strap is awesome though.

Don't know what to make of any of this Flashpoint stuff yet. This look seems too militant and rough to me, especially the facial scar, but the trident IS cool. This is just going to be a temporary look, right?

As long as it is temporary, I am okay with it. Looks menacing. Not sure about the comment of his that said the fins didn't make the final cut. Maybe just different fins? Cause really, Aquaman should have his fins!

I always preferred fins too, now that you mention it.

@Doug--I think it looks fine. This Emperor Penguin...er, Aquaman thing is clearly some alterna-universe mini, so this looks cool enough. I'm thrilled to have ANY comic with "Aquaman" in the title again.

Also, call me cynical, but the minute I see a major character getting a revamped look, even a temporary one, all I can think of it'll be the basis of a new line of DC Direct figures.

rob!--wave one has already been announced. Barry Allen, Flashpoint Wonder Woman, Flashpoint Batman and another I'm forgetting (not Arthur). I think the success of the rainbow lantern corps led to so many action figure possibilities, that's the whole thinking behind crossovers now.

Do we think maybe they change the costumes for the specific intent of selling more action figures?!? Either way, I'll be happy to get this Nazi/Guy Gardner version. :)

Good job JD and yes its a temporary look but word is that Flashpoint will have bits and pieces that last into the mainstream DCU even after the timeline is restored.

Sure, why not? As long as it's only a temporary, alt-verse thing. Could be interesting. Not that psyched about a weapon being a permanent part of Aquaman's m.o.; would really rather see him accomplish things via his physicality and telepathy. And while it looks cool, it's not a trident if it has 5 prongs.

I love it! Aquaman has never looked tougher - it's perfect.

At the risk of causing offense:

1. The crew cut does indeed cause an unfortunate resemblance to Captain Nazi.

2.Not loving the trident, although it could be a badge of office, being this is "Emperor" Aquaman. Once again, however, Tridents have 3 prongs, not 5. It's right in the name.

3. Are those leather pants? Thick ankles, too. God I miss the Silver Age.
