It's Adventure Sunday!

This week, Aquaman gets involved in a fight between Surface Dwellers:

Using some hungry finny friends, Aquaman urges the sea anemones to move (for they are fish, not plants, despite their appearance), leaving the one banded fish the Sea King was searching for.

But as soon as Aquaman reaches the surface, an impertinent seagull swoops down and snatches the fish right out of his hands! As if that wasn't enough, the professor's rival fisherman has had enough--he rows up to the professor's boat, whacking him in the face(!) with his paddle! This leaves Aquaman with a dilemma:

...and so ends another adventure with Aquaman!

This story is a reminder of the somewhat different relationship the original Aquaman had with his finny friends than the later models would. Sure, the Sea King calls them his friends, but he seems to have no problem choosing one fish over another, in some cases offering them up as food for surface dwellers. Backstabber!

Fun Fact: The fisherman that Aquaman pranks in the next-to-last panel eventually became the supervillain The Fisherman. Some people just can't let go.

LOL at the secret origin of the Fisherman!

Aquaman's attitude on eating seafood might be simpler than you indicate. This very story makes the point that sea creatures prey on other sea creatures. Aquaman will necessarily be in a position where some of his finny friends kill and eat others of his finny friends all the time. Logically, his position should be "it's just a fact of nature, neither good nor bad." What would offend him would be man wiping out whole species or destroying their habitats. If a surface dweller works out ways for humans to get enough to eat while leaving a healthy fish population for the species to survive, that might seem like a win-win scenario to Aquaman.

(That said, it might be odd if his reaction to a human getting eaten by some other life form was "Hey, you do it to my other friends all the time…")
