Mayfairstivus: Aquaman - 1989

This is Aquaman's player card from the DC Comics RPG, put out by Mayfair in 1989. I love that Motivation!

It was sent to me by F.O.A.M.er Frank Lee Delano, who is the ringleader for what he calls "Mayfairstivus", a week-long blog team-up featuring his Martian Manhunter site The Idol-Head of Diabolu, Once Upon A Geek, Being Carter Hall, Diana Prince as Wonder Woman, Girls Gone Geek, and many more.

The stats seen above seem pretty on the money, except for the Wealth one: 4 seems a little low, especially when you consider the nearly unlimited amount of gold and other rare minerals Aquaman can scoop off the ocean floor at will.

Thanks Frank, and Happy Mayfairstivus to all!

The 3rd edition boosted him to a 10 in Dexterity. Deathstroke threw Aquaman a decent beating back in the day, and Batman only got a 9, so I think that precludes a legitimate 10. However, he's surely comparable to the 8s of Greens Lantern and Arrow, and a 9 still seems reasonable to me.

A Strength of 8 also feels a bit light, especially the way he's been showing off lately. The Influence of 5 is just ridiculous, and the 3rd Edition rise to a 6 still doesn't do it. I figure a sovereign of Atlantis and super-team leader, even a bad one, rates a 7 minimum. Friggin' Green Arrow has an 8, and who doesn't tune him out?

A Wealth of 4 is $20,000 per year, which even in 1989 wasn't much above minimum wage. Bruce Wayne is a 20, with eight-hundred-million per annum. The Poseidonian Finback must trade against the Kenyan shilling.
