Brightest Day #12 - Dec. 2010

sg
Comics Weekend "All This Useless Beauty" by Geoff Johns, Peter J. Tomasi, Ivan Reis, Pat Gleason, and more.

Sadly, Aquaman or Mera make no appearance in this issue of Brightest Day, save for a nightmare had by the Martian Manhunter:

And Zombie Aquaman also shows up, though he says nothing and, thankfully, doesn't eat anyone:

Actually, Aquaman makes a couple of appearances in this week's DC books, but they're all flashbacks or flights of imagination. Thanks to alert F.O.A.M.er Joe Slab, here are two covers on new books that feature the Sea King--ironically enough doing the exact same thing on both:
The first is the variant cover to Justice League of America #50, by Jim Lee. The second is the George Perez's two-part wraparound variant cover from DCU Legacies #6. If you look close (click the image to embiggen), you can see Aquaman on the bottom right, again wrestling Starro!

Aquaman also appears on the inside of this issue, flashing back to the official announcement of "JLA Detroit":

...ouch!

Pardon my ignorance, but who's this Paul guy?

Kind of like in Marvels, he's a sort of regular who views the major events of the DCU, and we sort of it see them through his eyes.

That Jim Lee cover is hot. It's great when folks take another angle on a famous shot and come up wit something new.

Once again, crapping on the Detroit League specifically, and this series dumping on Bronze Age developments in general. I'm glad I gave it a pass. One issue and recaps online made it seem like an extended criticism of whatever Wein felt like being crotchety about by proxy.
