The Aqua-Family by Black Cat

sg
This beautiful, joyful portrait of the Aqua-Family frolicking is by the artist known as The Black Cat, who posted it on her DeviantArt page.

I was alerted to it by F.O.A.M.er Holly Hutchison, who gives us some background on the piece:

"
The background on this artist is that she is primarily focused on Batman, and furthermore she does this series of DC-related cartoons (many one-shots, but some series) that she posts to her deviantArt gallery. The conceit she uses is that each of the DC superheroes is the head of a kind of 'family' that consists of all of the characters who have ever been connected with them in the comics, but all at the same time.

So, for example--Batman is a sort of 'single dad', and
all three Robins are his adoptive kids (who vary slightly in age, with Dick being the oldest, Jason in the middle, and Tim the youngest), along with Terry (i.e. the protagonist of 'Batman Beyond') as the baby of the family. Yeah, it takes a little while to get into the groove of her particular approach, but after you get it, it makes some internal sense.

Today she posted an Aqua-Family splash page, and that, I
thought you'd like to see. :) A bit of cheerful Aquaman art for a Sunday. Except for Arthur Jr. as the perpetual infant, this 'family' follows the same rules as her others, with Garth as Aqualad being the 'oldest', and newer sidekicks appearing as younger kids."

Its a great piece, and I feel like it could used as presentation art for some non-existent Aquaman cartoon show. Thanks to The Black Cat for the keen art, and Holly for letting the Shrine know about it!

It really shows love when the brief Koryak and Lorena flirtation gets play. Sweet.

Congratulations to The Black Cat. It's a lovely and fond piece of work and it certainly made me feel rather happy, which must surely be a good sign.

It makes me miss the characters that DC has killed off (I believe 4 of those pictured here). But very fun -- I love that Arthur and Mera are wearing shades underwater. :)
