Breathless by Lurlene McDaniel

F.O.A.M.er extraordinaire Russell Burbage caught this offhand mention of Aquaman inside the 2009 book Breathless, by Lurlene McDaniel:

In a book like this, it makes total sense that the teenage main character would think of himself as being like Aquaman and look up to him. But the fact that author McDaniel doesn't waste any time explaining who Aquaman is is yet another example of how deeply the Sea King pervades the culture.

Good catch, thanks Russell!

Oh wow, I really love that. I honestly feel the same way about the water. I spend all my free time around bodies of water IN the bodies of water. It's just so relaxing.

So many people that think of Aquaman as a joke usually are the same people that have this tragic fear of deep water. It's easy to make fun of the guy who "talks to fish" when they would never dive below the surface themselves and come anywhere near sea life. It's an amazing place and Aquaman has the best (yet toughest) job on the planet.

So in conclusion -- that was a really cool passage! I like it!

Great find!

And Aquaman had a little extended cameo bit on Sunday's Family Guy. He saved some dude in a canoe and the guy thanked him. Aquaman then dove under the water then came back up in a business suit. The man said "Arthur Curry? Did you just see Aquaman?" Was a funny bit.
