What's intriguing is that they are more "modern" interpretations of the characters, some of which I've never seen before, like this shot of Aquaman. Can anyone think of a time this piece was ever used?
As is usual with the work of JLGL, its all kinds of awesome.

I don't recall ever seeing that one.
Wow, what a great looking desing. It almost looks animalistic -- the way the knees are bent forward and the shin-fins really poking out -- he looks more shark like than any other Aquaman model I've ever seen. It looks really cool.
Huh--I wouldn't even recognize that as a Garcia Lopez piece. Looks like a hybrid of his early work with the influences and trappings of the early 1990s.
wow, that's darn cool. I love Garcia Lopez.
Man, does he know how to draw or what?
Great piece, but the sharpness of the fins just throws me for some reason.
Garcia Lopez "amped" up his style guide work to keep up with modern tastes. I've never seen this Aquaman piece, but it fits in with the Superman and Batman work he's output since the early 90s.
Chris
I think Lopez' current style guides are really ugly, that Aquaman piece included unfortunately. Which is sad to me because I absolutely LOVE his 80's style guides and work.
Period-wise it kind of looks like it ties into "Time And Tide", or that period between that and Peter David's ongoing series. 1993? I only say that because there are four elements you don't normally see simultaneously: long hair, clean-shaven, 'A' belt-buckle/insignia and mail/scale style shirt with emphasized texture. I can't remember who the pre-T&T and post-T&T artists were, but it might have been Gary Frank, or Kirk...um, Jarvinen? Could I have spelled that right?
