In the previous post, I asked about any potential Aqua-Fans about attending the Emerald City Comic Con. That's because there's an idea I've had for a while, but an email from F.O.A.M.er Joe Slab this afternoon spurred me to get moving on it.
As we head into "con season", I've always wanted the Shrine (and, conversely, Aquaman) to have some sort of presence, but right now I'm limited to only attending a couple of local shows (Philly and NYC).
But since the Shrine has so many fans, all over the world, I've thought about producing some sort of little giveaway item to send out to selected Agents of F.O.A.M. so they could give them out at cons. My first idea is a 3" sticker, seen above, which I think would help spread the word.
So, what do you Aqua-Fans who are planning to hit the cons think? Would you like a little item like this to have to hand out? If I get enough positive response, I'll pony up the dough and get these babies made. Let me know via the poll at right!
Update: F.O.A.M.er Joe Mello suggested also using the above sticker as a "badge" that bloggers can post on their blogs to declare their Aqua-Fandom. I thought that was a great idea, so here are some 225 pixel-wide badges that you can download and use. More colors coming:
All I ask is if you do use this on your blog, please link it back to the Shrine. Thanks!
Update 2: F.O.A.M.er Russell Burbage suggested, to help defray the cost, that everyone could download their own badge and print it out on sticker paper.
Since I really want the sticker to be round (I'm a...stickler for graphic design), I'd rather print them out myself. But I like Russell's idea of ameliorating the costs, since that would enable me to make lots of these, possibly in perpetuity.
I'm thinking of setting up a Paypal account, where anyone who wants some of these stickers to hand out could donate something like $2 or $3 to the cause. Then I'd get as many stickers made out of that pool of money. All it would cost me would be mailing them around, which is no big deal and something I'm totally willing to do!
So let's see what kind of numbers the poll racks up...

Those of us interested can buy Avery Label paper and print them out ourselves, saving you the cost. :-)
Russell-
I'd rather not do that, because the ones I'd get made would be a little more durable. Plus the stickers would be circular, and I can't expect anyone to do all that tedious cutting if they print them themselves. (The Graphic Designer in me NEEDS these to be look like how I envisioned them!)
But I have a way that could defray the cost on my end, and save everyone having to buy their own sticker paper. Stay tuned!
Rob - Can those of us non-attendees use the sticker as a button promoting our F.O.A.M. membership on our own blogs?
Obviously, I think this is a cool idea and would consider giving them out at LCSs as well...like Rob I am bound to the East Coast and will only be attending the Allentown-Con (April 3 and more like a trade show) and Philly this year.
I hope A-fans really have a positive presence and energy this year at the Cons, we have still have some damage control to do even though we are on the eve of Aquaman's return and hopefully series relaunch!
Hey Rob, I'm thinking of attending Heroes Con in Charlotte this year. I'd be happy to hand some out there.
Joe-Great idea, see update!
Joe S--I agree, this is a great time to spread the word!
Andy--Cool, thanks!
Rob-As you know I am a serious Aquaman fan. I'm normally all for what you and the other guys come up with.
I hate to sound like a prude but I would have trouble wearing a badge that says to "worship at the Aquaman shrine." 1)It's sounds sacrilegious. 2) It's a little lame. I suggest we try a different slogan.
Rob,
I'll be glad to hand out stickers at GenCon this August. Count me in. Will send you some $ if needed as well...
Very cool! Thanks for the buttons, I have one up on my site already.
Caffeinated Joe
And I love it as is, Rob. No need to change a word!
Heya Rob!
Being a GD myself I understand your thoughts on wanting them a certain way.
I will post one on my images2icons blog, but you know me I am going to take that image and make an icon out of it lol! Will send you one if you want. Just to save you the work I am sure you can do it yourself.
We added the image to our blog! Would love an "official" sticker.
I tagged up my blog--fun!
And yeah, the sticker idea--also fun!
Maybe I am being too serious about this but I would get rid of the "come worship" tagline. I like Aquaman and other characters but I don't worship them.
@Rick--it's a little gag on it being the Aquaman "shrine". I don't think whomever you worship normally would mind a sticker-gag about Aqua-fanaticism too much :) If Rob starts mailing us Kool-Aid or matching Nike kicks, I think you can start justifiably worrying.
David--Exactly. I thought what other word would go better with "shrine"?
That said, I guess I have to scrap my "matching Aquaman Nike shoes" idea...
On the other hand (the hook one, or the normal one?) you could come up with two designs, Rob, those that say "come worship" and ones that don't. I kinda actually agree with The Ricks.
If I had a choice I'd pick one of the following to use instead of "worship":
celebrate
honor
praise
glorify
venerate
Just my two clams.
I'm starting to regret ever even starting this.
Don't regret it, Rob. It is a cool design and a cute pun for a site that HAS been called a Shrine from day one.
I am sure I am not the only one who loves it.
Yeah, I love it. You can't please all the people all the time--and a world where everything is blanded down so it couldn't possibly be offensive to anyone isn't a world I'm particularly interested in hanging out in.
I love it, I put it up. It's good stuff.
Well said, Mr. Cutler!
Thanks Joe and David.
Zazzle just canceled my order, saying Im violating copyrights or something (I guess they're afraid I'm going to sell them). So the whole thing may just be a non- starter.
sorry if I caused a problem. didn't mean to Rob Just gave my opinion and advice. Don't worry about Zazzle. You can still do it yourself. I tried something with a Black Lightning T-shirt. I wanted only 2 but one got printed and I sent to Tony Isabella. When I asked where the other was they said they can't print it for pretty much the reason they gave you.
I'd use the pay pal! Set it up and I'm in. I can hit up the NC cons.

Rob - I'll be happy to hand out stickers at DragonCon in Atlanta over Labor Day. Additionally, I'd be more than happy to donate to the Shrine to help cover your expenses.
I think the stickers are just fine as they are.
Just say the word and I'm your aqua-soldier swimming in the seas of Con-Funk. :)
