Toyfare #152

sg
The latest issue of Toyfare has some nice images of a couple of the new figures in the DC Universe line, including a big close-up of Classic Aquaman.

With the addition of Classic Aquaman and Firestorm, fans of this line (like me!) can now assemble the original, as-they-looked-at-the-time classic JLA line-up in DC Universe form--or at least as
close as a non-millionaire can get.

Can't wait to see this baby on toy shelves sometime in 2010!

Allegedly these have started creeping into stores. . . hoping to trip across a Firestorm.

Firestorm was a part of the classic JLA lineup? Kids these days!

I thought the classic JLA was just Aquaman, J'onn, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and the Flash, with Atom, Arrow, Superman and Batman joining thereafter? Although I kinda think in revised continuity it was Canary instead of Wonder Woman...

When I think of Classic JLA, I think of the team from its inception to JLA Annual #2, where the original team busted apart.

Sure, that's a long span, but to me THE JLA is:

Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
Aquaman
Flash
Green Lantern
Martian Manhunter
Green Arrow
Atom
Hawkman
Black Canary
Elongated Man
Red Tornado
Hawkgirl
Zatanna
Firestorm

...and I'll fight any man who says otherwise!

Well, Vixen, Steel and Vibe are available in the JLU line so you can also include them in a JLA line-up. I happen to still have some fond memories of JLA Detroit. Especially since Aquaman was involved so heavily in getting that team together.

But, for what it's worth...my classic JLA line-up consists of:

Aquaman
Superman
Wonder Woman
Batman
Green Lantern (Hal)
Flash (Barry)
Martian Manhunter
Green Arrow
Atom
Hawkman & Hawkgirl
Elongated Man
Red Tornado
Zatanna
Firestorm

Man, these figures are looking really cool. The Firestorm and Aquaman are ones I'll have to keep an eye out for.

And on the subject of what people consider to be "their" JLA, if you will, this is who I think is the essential JLA lineup -

Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
Green Lantern
Flash
Aquaman
Martian Manhunter
Green Arrow
Black Canary
Hawkman
Hawkgirl
Atom

Why those 12? Well, I just think it works. You've got the classic 7 + Green Arrow & Black Canary, + Hawkman & Hawkgirl + the Atom. It just...feels right, and it's the lineup I like the best.

But throwing in Red Tornado and a few others never hurt anybody. It's when you base the league around guys like Red Tornado that (I think) things go a little sour.

Just realized I left Black Canary out of my line-up. She goes right before Elongated Man.

Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
Green Lantern (Kyle)
Flash (Wally)
Aquaman
Martian Manhunter...

But I'm a fan from a different time, I guess! ;)

Wow! Who is this new aggressive Rob? Is he wearing a leather jacket with a pack of cigarettes rolled up in his sleeve. Tough guy! :)

Check out my classic JLA figure set-up in my home office.

Check out the first two shelves. Add Batman and Martian Manhunter from the bottom shelf (my JLI shelf) and it matches Rob's picks.

That's how strongly I feel about it, Shag. :)

Throw in Phantom Stranger as an Honourary member and I'll go along with the above lists.
(Where's the love for Snapper Carr? He adds mockingly...)
