JLA Classified: Aquaman by DC Direct - 2010

sg
It seems like I can't take a trip into my LCS, All Things Fun, without having some new Aquaman figure waiting for me.

This line--based on the art of Ed McGuinness, one of my favorites--does seem a tad out of date, since some of the characters no longer look like this, as you can see.

But what the hey--its an Aquaman figure, so that means I'm going to buy it. Oh, DC Direct, why can't I quit you?

I was very tempted to buy this last week. I bought the Kyle Rayner figure instead, because I already have the History Of The DC Universe Aquaman on order with my local store. I do think this is a great figure, however.

The whole line seems to be aimed at 90s nostalgia. You've got 90s badass pirate Aquaman, 90s disaster electric blue supes, 90s Green Lantern for the grunge generation Kyle Rayner in his original costume, and 90s Cassandra Cain Batgirl (even if her first appearance was halfway through 1999, that still counts as the 90s.)

I grew up during the decade but other than Kyle Rayner I don't have much affection left for any of these incarnations (I already have a couple pieces of Harpoon Arthur merch, feel like it's all I need). I used to love that Batgirl, but the weirdness of the mask lost its luster with me over the last decade.

I like the look. One of the less-cheesy versions of hook-hand Aquaman.

Huh. I'd have called it MOST cheesy, but yeah, I love the style.

While it's pretty similar to a couple of others I already have, I'm betting this one will find it's way into my grubby little paws, provided either of my LCS' carry it. Will have to do some searching.

David, honestly, I feel like a dummy because I did not pick up on the 90's connection at all LOL
