Breaking News - Super Friends Season 1 on DVD

sgFinally!

Several of you AquaFans out there have sent me emails today about the announcement that the first season of Super Friends will finally come to DVD on January 5th. Huzzah!

First out of the gate was our newest member of F.O.A.M., someone who only wants to be known as Marcus, who also had some kind words about my other blogs. Flattery will get you everywhere, sir!

Longtime F.O.A.M.er Vince Bartiucci also sent me word of the release, along with a link to TVshowsonDVD.com, who has a shot of the box art:
sg
...nice! Can't go wrong with Jose Luis Garcia Lopez stock art, even if Wonder Woman is wearing an incorrect, later version of her costume.

I'm really glad to see these episodes of the show finally hitting DVD--they were really enjoyable, and were very probably my first ever exposure to Aquaman which has led to a bit of an obsession. Somewhat.

One last quibble: the special features include a trivia game and some other stuff, but no commentary tracks. I know its probably not cost-effective, but man I'd love to see some of these Super Friends shows get commentary tracks with, say, voice of Aquaman Norman Alden and some current comics/movie pros who loved Super Friends as a kid. What a blast that would be to listen to!

Anyway, thanks for keeping me in the loop everybody, and Marcus, welcome to F.O.A.M.!

But...why not use the iconic pose of the Five Super Friends with Wendy, Marvin, and Wonder Dog? Or does WB really think that people don't want to buy these episodes 'cause they don't feature The Wonder Twins?!? Gosh, I don't understand marketing people...

I think Toth's work---as beautiful as it is--is deemed just too off model nowadays. Its never been used on any of these SF sets!

Regardless, this is going to the top of my Christmas list. I agree though the iconic pose should have been on there.

You guys know they used the Toth art on the "Challenge of the Super Friends-Attack of the Legion of Doom" DVD box, right??

Aaron, yes, they used that Alex Toth pose (which seemed wrong, since it was totally not what that season was about). I'm talking about the one of all of them with Wendy & Marvin standing on the Super Friends log.
You can find it here:

Russell, Oh, yeah, I knew what you meant. I guess it IS a little different, now that I look at them side-by side. I just thought they dropped Wendy and Marvin (and Wonder Dog).

Meanwhile, the assertion I made in my comment is just stupid, since it couldn't have been more wrong. Dang.

hehehe ... no Duffy love at the Shrine ...

Hey, Russell - we can finally see that Superman, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman at the dam sequence again!

Oh, and TVShowsonDVD reports that the WW breastplate will be fixed.

Super Friends Season One Volume One? Hasn't this already been released with another cover? I own it and the set I'm referring to has the Legion of Doom episodes.

Luis-

the Legion of Doom season of SF was the third or fourth season. the first season were the hour-longs featuring Wendy, Marvin, and Wonder Dog.

I just saw this on Amazon, and I just hate the fact they not only didn't use the iconic pose of the heroes, but they didn't use the logo! As a budding designer, that logo (along with the Superman logo) were 2 favorites to copy as a kiddo. This cover looks dated in its attempt to be more "modern" and removes all the 70's charm of the original.
