Super Heroes Instant Winner Card

This weird little item--sent to me our newest F.O.A.M. member David Norek--presents a mystery.

It's an "Instant Winner Card", for some contest featuring DC superheroes sponsored by Post Cereal. Not being familiar with this particular contest, I can only guess you were supposed to collect stickers featuring different DC heroes' headshots which you were to stick onto this game card, which came pre-printed with an Aquaman stock shot by Neal Adams.

Is anyone familiar with this contest? Anybody know what Post products were involved, or what the prizes might have been? This AquaFan is dying to know!

Thanks David, and welcome to F.O.A.M.!

Update: Re: the comments, this game consisted of cards that you scratched off and had to match to the pre-printed hero at the top, in this case Aquaman.

They even ran TV spots for the contest! Here's the ad, although, sadly, it doesn't feature Aquaman (although he is pictured on the package of puffy stickers that was one of the prizes):

Update 2: Re: Some more of the comments, it appears the above update is incorrect: the scratch-off card and the "Draw a Villain" contest (which the commercial is from) were two separate contests, and weren't related.

Sorry for the mix-up--The Aquaman Shrine hopes to enlighten, not confuse!

It was on most Post cereals. I don't know how far reaching it was, at the time I only ate Fruity Pebbles. There is even a video on Youtube about it. I think that you could win two ways: One was the scratch off card that you see above, the other was to design a villain on the back of the box which contained a panel featuring some of the DC heroes fighting a blank space-where you were supposed to include your villain.

There were some pretty obscure characters on the scratch off. I remember having Huntress on mine.

I think that the grand prize was seeing your villain in print and having breakfast with the heroes.

I actually won a prize pack from this (or a similar) Post contest. It was a special Super Friends comic and several sets of puffy stickers.

I think this card is a scratch off. You were supposed to have at least two matches to Aquaman (or whichever headshot was on top of the card) to win. I think this is how I won, although I also did the villain portion too.

That commercials animation is much nicer the the Super Friends cartoon lol

Hmmm. I could be wrong, but I'm now thinking the scratch off contest came a few years before the draw a villain contest. I'm pretty sure I was 5 or 6 when I won a prize in that contest (around 1980 or 81), and Wonder Woman in the commercial has her "WW" symbol, making it 1982 or after. Probably the only time the original voice of WW on Super Friends got to voice her with that look.

I'm with Earth 2 Chris; these two promotions were NOT linked. The cards were inside participating POST cereals, and the Draw A Villain Contest was based on the outside of the box (draw and send, per the ad).

I had this exact card for years, but don't know whatever happened to it. My parents probably tossed it out when I went away to college. It certainly does bring back memories, though...

I vaguely remember getting these cards mostly in Super Sugar Crisp cereal when I was a teen. I still have three of them with the Golden Age Flash, Dr. Mid-Nite and Robin at the top. The scratched off areas had Superman, Golden Age Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Batman, Robin, Riddler, Golden Age Flash and Captain Marvel. The copyright is 1980 and the prizes include trip to Hollywood, bicycle, kite, comic book and flying disc (all of mine read NO PRIZE THIS TIME. I wished that I would have kept the boxes that they came in.

I will have to scan the fronts and backs of the ones that I have tomorrow and post them. I forgot all about them until I saw this post.

I just found a picture of the Super Sugar Crisp box that the cards came in at http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3386/3277217393_efce9d3b9c.jpg

They came with the mini comic books and I still have five of them. Each are sixteen pages. I have two copies of Super Heroes in "The Secret of the Sinister Lighthouse!" (yes, Aquaman is in it). The other three mini comic books that I have is Batman in "The Joker's Last Laugh!", Superman in " Terra-Man's Skyway Robbery!" and Wonder Woman in "The Angle Menace!"

I will have try to get these scanned too.
