But then last week one eBay seller had giant pictures of this figure on their auction page, and I could see some the detail--the "A" belt, the scales on the shirt--and determine that, yes Virginia, this was someone's sad, sad attempt at an Aquaman figure.
Who makes things like this, and, more importantly, who buys them? The instantly-chipping paint, the goofily-enlarged head, the comically-overdone "fins" attached to the boots, not to mention the gouge-your-eyes-out colors all make for the kind of toy you can only shake your head at.
Of course, I am overjoyed to add it to the collection.

Sad as it looks, I bet some kids were happy to have it. Probably a good memory for someone, somewhere.
Pretty sure that's a swipe from the Marx IRON MAN...

I'm liking it.
It looks like an archaeological find.
I used to live in Mexico, these figures are knock offs of original figures that are sold at mercados or tianguis, very cheaply made. As kids that was the closest we could get to an action figure since the originals were really expensive for our parents. But still have reat memories about them!
I'm very familiar with mexican bootleg figures since I live in Mexico and I see them all the time. However most of them are much better made than the one pictured.
