Mego Xmas Ad - 1977

sg
Ah, an ad from Christmases past--coming down on Xmas morning to see any of these Mego under the tree (or hanging in your stocking, like Supes is above) made for a wonderful Christmas indeed.

I'm always curious as to the hows and whys of which figures were chosen for any given ad--although I guess since this is clearly a DC-only ad, these were all the most obvious choices. I particularly like how Aquaman is dead center in the ad.

If I had had more moxie as a kid, I would've handed this ad to my parents and just said "Yes, please."

I had ALL of the super-heroes and villains as a kid. (sigh) Now I just have the great MEGO book you wrote about a few months ago. I never did have the Batgirl, Wonder Woman, or Catwoman dolls, but I did have the Supergirl. I don't think I ever even saw them in the stores, but maybe I did and just didn't want them. Anyway, I also bought a Dinah Might (sp?) doll (also made by Mego?) and switched bodies with the Supergirl doll because I thought the Dinah doll was cuter than the Supergirl doll. The bodies were the same, so my Supergirl was a spitting image of that long, straight-haired Supergirl with the short shorts. (sigh) Ahh, youth...

I think Christmas 77 was probably the year I got my first Megos. I had just turned 3, and I got Batman, Robin, the Batmobile AND the Batcave for Christmas that year. What a year!

I'd be remiss if I didn't say go here for all things Mego:

I know I filled this out at least once, finding a good variety of WGSH was tough in my neck of the woods...

That would have been a Magical Mego Christmas indeed Rob! I would still love to find any of these peeking out of a stocking come Christmas morn!

Ahhh... Mego action figures. Were there ever (or since) any cooler toys than these? I think not.

(I know - I was there...)
