Dolphin Pog - 2008

sgThis is a Dolphin Pog.

I tried really, really hard to come up with anything else to say about this, but I failed. Please forgive me.

Moments Later Update
: I was going to subtitle this post "Brevity Is The Soul Of Wit", because I thought it was funny that it was short. Usually, of course, I can on and on about even the tiniest piece of Aquaman minutiae.

But as soon as I posted this, it didn't seem as funny to me as when I first wrote it, so to fill out the post a bit here are two gorgeous pieces of art featuring DC's underwater lady of mystery--first, her Showcase cover by Jay Scott Pike, and then her Who's Who entry by the late great Dave Stevens:

...whoever at DC had the idea to hire Stevens to draw this, I hope they got a free lunch out of it, or one of those "Grape Job!" stickers at the very least.

I clicked on the Dolphin label to see if you had posted any other Dolphin stuff. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised that you hadn't. There probably weren't many, if any, appearances by her outside of the pages of a comic book, except for that pog.

Also, kudos to Peter David for bringing her into the Aquaman sphere in the first place.

I think that Dolphin art by Stevens was the first time I saw...er...perkiness...in a DC comic.

Yeah, it is cool that PAD thought to bring her into Aquaman's world, but I've got something against any characters that stand between Arthur and his one, true love. Mera is the only woman for him, so I really don't like Dolphin much.

I actually didn't mind the Dolphin-Arthur-Mera triangle, but I absolutely LOATHED that Garth suddenly fell for her and got her pregnant and married her. And now where is she, anyway?
BTW, didn't she appear on a Who's Who page in the 90s, too?

It's Dolphin... in pog form!

I adore the simplicity of the gorgeous Showcase cover. I must read that issue someday.

I like the character, but not as the bimbo love interest to Aquaman and Tempest. Prior to that, Peter David wrote her into Justice League Task Force #7 and 8.

For years I only knew Dolphin from her Who's Who entry. I got that issue of Who's Who when I was about thirteen. Needless to say, given my age at the time I didn't forget that entry by any means. I still remember it to this day.

It wasn't until the PAD Aquaman series that I actually got to read her in an actual story.

I too only knew Dolphin from her Who's Who entry and never saw her anywhere else.
