JLA Gallery Pin-Up by Chris Weston - 1997

sg
This spiffy pin-up is by artist Chris Weston from the 1997 JLA Gallery comic.

There was a surprising number of Aquaman-centric pin-ups in that book, underscoring my belief that Aquaman's ability to sell a comic book is disproportionate to the size of his actual fan-base both in and out of the comics industry.

That's a really cool, if a tad creepy, throne Arthur is rocking there.

Umm... I think you crossed movie f/x great Stan Winston with artist Chris Weston. In an ironic turn, I was scanning the Craig Hamilton Starro page out of the Gallery earlier today to post this weekend, so it was just sitting there for me to double-check...

It doesn't seem right to use Topo as his throne. Topo doesn't look too happy about it.

Okay Aquaman yes, Superman okay maybe, Green Lantern has the green "force", Martian Manhunter isn't even from this planet so all right, and of course Bats is sporting his "Bat Scuba Gear". But how is the Flash and Wonder Woman breathing under water?

Oh and cool pin up, by the way!

This drawing, though incredibly detailed and well inked, just doesn't do it for me. Aquaman doesn't look like himself and neither does Superman. It all just feels weird.
