Power Record Back Cover - 1975

sg
I just recently shuttered my Power Records Blog, having pretty much done everything with it I had planned to do (and then some).

Having now scoured every inch of (almost) every Power Record ever made, I got very familiar with all the different pieces of art they used, and re-used, and re-re-used, and...

This snappy back cover was run a few times on the back of some 45" DC Book and Record sets, featuring Neal Adams doing what he does best--exciting heroic action poses, with Aquaman looking quite smashing, I'd say.

Ah, Adams. Does it get more iconic than that! Metamorpho must have been thinking "How'd I get in with the big guns?"

I have a disease to point these things out. Superman and Batman were lifted from the 1976 DC Calendar cover, but the rest seem all new for this piece.

Power Records will forever remind me of the Kresge check out counter. They make me happy when I see them.

Oddly enough they remind me of shopping at the grocery store with my mom. For some reason our local grocery always had a rack full of Peter Pan/Power Records.

Now that is one well-designed record cover. I especially like the criss-cross poses of Metamorpho and Plastic Man. Bravo, Neal Adams! On a related topic, I wanted to let you guys know that over on chicagotribune.com they're having a 32-hero voting contest to determine the best superhero of all time. And guess what blond-haired King of the Seven Seas made the list? They put him up against the Hulk in the first round, and since most unenlightened fans seem to think it's a total rout, our boy Artie needs all the voting and good comments he can get!
