Aquaman Around The World Week, Part 5 - 1960s

sg

sg
We conclude our Aquaman Around The World Week on the other side of the world--Australia!

This is SuperAdventure Annual, featuring, as you can see from the cover, a ridiculously diverse cross-section of the DCU, as drawn by...someone not officially approved by DC, I'd bet. (Why is Jimmy Olsen blond? And why are Ollie and Roy so darn chummy?)

The book consists of reprints from DCs from the 1960s, printed in varying shades of one color on white, which makes them...a little hard on the eyes, actually. The Aquaman story inside--printed in green--is a Ramona Fradon-drawn adventure originally from, well, Adventure. And now in SuperAdventure.

Fun/Frustrating Fact: That less than inspiring shot of Aquaman was actually used on a piece of merchandise, an
English Pocket Watch by the Ingersoll company that remains one of my Holy Grails of Aquaman Collecting.

Location: Australia!

We started this week at Argentina, moved to Germany, then to Mexico, back to Argentina, and ended up in Australia. That's a lot of ground to cover for a hero who can't fly.

I hope you enjoyed our All Around The World week, and who knows maybe we'll do it again sometime!

No one has the right hair color on this cover, except for Superman! Jimmy and Speedy should obviously be redheads, and Aquaman and Tommy Tomorrow should be blonde. At least Detective Chimp's fur is black.

But still, you can't beat charmingly weird foreign comic stuff

I like how Aquaman and Detective Chimp are making eye contact with the viewer, classic.

Wow, that actually looks like run-of-the-mill '30's art!

Great weekend,

That cover would make a great t shirt, it looks like someone from the Beano drew it!

Wow, its like they've never actually seen the characters before. Ollie is not a redhead, Roy is!
