AquaContest Pin-Up - ?

sg
This nifty pin-up of Aquaman in a very dire situation is by...ah, but that would be telling, wouldn't it?

All you have to do to win one of the Super-Hero Stand-Ups from yesterday is name the artist. The pin-up is only by one person(pencils and inks) so only one name is correct. Leave a comment with your answer, multiple guesses ok!

If no one guesses correctly by around 9:30am Tuesday, a hint will be given. Further hints will appear if no one manages to guess correctly. Good luck, everybody!

Hi, Rob, this is Andy Luckett. Is the artist Bernie Wrightson?

Hey, Rob, Andy Luckett again. I forgot in my last comment, is it Kelley Jones?

Andy-

no and no, but both good guesses!

WOW! That's a neat one. I don't think I've seen it before.

It's not Graham Ingels?

I swear, the whole thing reminds me of something, I'm just not sure what.

Hey again, Rob, Andy Luckett again. I'm gonna try once more before I go to bed. I'm definently testing this "multiple guesses" rule, huh? Is it: Mike Ploog, Michael Golden, Gene Colan, or Graham Ingles?

Looks sorta like Jim Aparo, but a bit different. But I guess that's my guess right now anyway.

I'm going to say old school Mike Mignola!

Hi Rob,

I think I know but I won the JLA: New Frontier contest so I'll abstain.

The two most obvious possibilities have already been tried, so I'm trying to look past the style. Based on the use of negative space and aspects of Aquaman's pose, I'm going to try for an early Mike Mignola fanzine pin-up.

I've got one other guess who shares initials with a previous candidate, but I'll wait for this one to be shot down first.

Looks like Don Newton to me. Or maybe Rob Kelly.

It's Newton

(It took me too much time to realize that there is no link to posting comments in the FLOCK browser)

I'm in the Newton camp. Just to be different, however, I'm gonna make my "official" guess Todd McFarlane. It has a similar feel to his Infinity Inc. work.

I was going to guess Michael Golden as well. That pin-up reminds me of some of his work on Doctor Strange in the late 70's, especially villain's face and the melted candle wax.

We'll go with Dick Giordano, even though it doesn't really look like his style. Hey, I had to guess someone.

I have a set of these stand-ups, so I'll abstain from participating but my guess is either Newton, Golden, or someone no one has mentioned yet.

Tom Yeates?
