Justice League Unlimited Figure - 2005

sgIt seems hard to believe, after a year of daily posts, that I haven't gotten around to talking about the Aquaman JLU figure, yet here we are!

It certainly is the spiffiest-looking version possible of Aquaman's pirate look, and as usual for Mattel's JLU line, the modeling and overall look is spot on.

Rarrr! I'm Aquaman! Rarrr!!

Ugh. No. At least the comics had the gladiator gear and a distinct, if misguided, take on the actual character of Aquaman. Timm & company just gave Sub-Mariner pants.

Wait, so Aquaman is actually Motor Ed?

Well, I guess if anyone can rock the aqua-mullet, it would be him.

I loved Timm's take on Aquaman but he didn't need the beard to be a bad ass as demonstrated on Superman TAS but at least Timm made me accept the stoopid hook.

i am totally grading on a curve here. i wish they hadnt gone with this look for the cartoon, but if they did, this is the nicest possible looking version.

...and tomorrow's is a even a little better!

He doesn't look like a pirate. I like Timm's version of Aquaman.

Gag. I miss his old look, before he was given this "extreme" makeover. May as well give him a peg leg with a flipper on it and have him hunt down Moby Dick.

Hey man, the Timmverse version wasn't perfect (see Justice), but for the moment where he loses his hand ALONE, that story should become canon. That's one of the greatest character moments that any DC character has ever had. If I were given the chance to write the character from scratch, I'd be forced to include the hook, JUST so that I could tell that story.

Lord knows anything would be better than having your hand forced into a pool of piranha. That moment was so impossibly stupid my full respect for Peter David never recovered.
