Batman v Superman Trailer

Warner Bros. debuted the second and full trailer for Batman v Superman at the 2015 SDCC, giving us a better concept of the story not to mention our first real shots of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in action. Still no Aquaman, but I guess they are saving the best for last!

It's clear now that all the destruction wreaked at the end of Man of Steel will be addressed in this film, head on. That element of the previous film definitely left a bad taste in my mouth and I think it's a gutsy move for the filmmakers to have purposely laid that groundwork and willingly absorbing a couple of years(!) of fanboy brickbats.

I still have a lot of misgivings about the overall "dark" approach WB is taking with the DC films. But as I have said before, if this Dawn of Justice ends with the nascent Justice League being formed, having taken us down this dark path but ending up in the light, then I think there's a chance this could end up being a very powerful film, achieving an emotional resonance that the Marvel films have (IMO) only been able to pull off sparingly. I haven't seen a lot from Zack Snyder that makes me think he can do it, but I am remaining cautiously optimistic. Plus, you know, live action Aquaman!

What did everyone else think?

I'm excited for this one! Loved the trailer, completely marked out for Wonder Woman. I agree with what Rob said about it being a big risk using the MOS Metropolis destruction as a springboard for the rest of the DCCU, but if this movie is as good as the trailer then it will have paid off. I find Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor quite intriguing and want to see more. Also looks like WB may hav got it right with Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne and may have gone some way to quietening the doubters. Of course I would've loved to have seen Aquamomoa but I guess all good things to those who wait. Between this and the AMAZING Suicide Squad teaser that officially dropped this morning my time (Australian Eastern Standard time) it's been a great week for DC & WB. I almost forgot Marvel have a movie about some insect guy dropping this week such has been the buzz around the DC releases. Bring on 2016! The red capes are coming!

The scene where Bruce is running towards danger while others ran away evoked all kinds of feels and evokes images of the 9-11 Firefighters/Police/Emergency Personnel. His anger towards 'the sky/God/Superman' evident on his face for allowing something like that to happen (while giving solace to a little girl) speaks volumes and convinces me that he has a valid reason to hate Superman (and I am the guy who HATES when superheroes fight each other!)

And I literally gasped out loud the first time I saw Wonder Woman in action.

I was cautiously optimistic before; now I am completely sold!

I'll admit, I feel much better about this film now. As Eric said above, Batman's motivations seem real. Them addressing the wanton destruction in MoS has some believing this was a result of the fan backlash, but who knows. This may have been the plan all along. Either way, it's a different angle to work from, although it seems weird that the Marvel characters start out chummier than the DC ones in team-up films.

It's still very dark, but there are hints of some light poking through, with Superman examining his role, and showing him, you know, saving people.

Still a bit guarded, but more optimistic.

What is that clip at about the 2:26 mark with the kid diving down in the water? Granted, not everything taking place in the ocean has to be related to Aquaman, but it could be.

I thought this was a good trailer but I am still perplexed by the use of dark filtering for DC films. One of the many reasons I like The Flash series is that it has a brighter color pallet. It makes me want to just have the .mov file of the DC movies and modify it in premiere with the filters stripped out. My only other issue with the trailer, and not seeing the film of course, is that it seems so serious that it comes off a little dated. Marvel films are definitely are starting to have a little bit more of a softer edge to the films. As far as actors. Superman - great casting - good actor. Wonder Woman - great casting and she is a great actor. Batman - I still hate him, but I have personal professional issues with him that I still can't get passed.

I'm intrigued and excited by the trailer. One of the reasons I enjoyed Man of Steel was because it carved a different narrative/thematic path than the previous series of Superman films. I think that Zack Snyder's visual sense of drama, when enhanced by a strong script, can really achieve the mythic quality that DC Comics has done so well over the decades.

The fact that this storyline seems to focus on Superman's actions and the cause and effect thereof is strong and has a lot of dramatic potential. I hope it comes together really well!

Seeing Wonder Woman in live-action was a thrill. I hope that this film gives Aquaman a chance to show his skills too!
