Aquaman and the Others #10 - April 2015

sg
Comics Weekend "Alignment: Earth, Part 5" by Dan Jurgens, Lan Medina, Allen Martinez, Matt Milla, and more.

This penultimate issue of Aquaman and the Others leads off with Ya'Wara, floating in the ocean, having been shot...to death?

We then get a flashback to a scene with angry young man who is carted off by some shadowy Russian government agents. That young man will of course grow up to be Vostok, who is now contemplating his fate:

Now that Maelstrom has the nuclear launch codes they were after, they plan to make their next move: launch one of the missiles to show the world "what we're capable of", which will be followed by the destruction of Aquaman and the Others. Meanwhile, we see that Ya'Wara's body is fished out of the water by a hard water hand and brought above the surface. Of course, that's the work of...Mera!

Ya'Wara, not as injured as it first seemed, wakes up and wants to stop yet another fight between Prisoner of War and The Operative. Mera stops her, suggesting it's all part of Aquaman's plan.

The vengeful spirit that was controlling Prisoner of War is forced out, leaving only Dominick, who gratefully tosses Korec's dog tags into the ocean. Back with the Maelstrom, they are all watching the missile start to launch, only to find that their computer systems have been infected by a virus! On top of that, Ya'Wara shows up and, using her Globe of Teleportation, carries Maelstrom to a remote island. Waiting for them there is...

...to be concluded!

I like Aquaman's role here as tactician, it's something Batman always gets to do and always made him seem so cool. Mera must have had some second thoughts about rescuing Ya'Wara, but of course he ultimately does the right thing.

I'm going to miss Lan Medina drawing Aquaman. I really have enjoyed this book and I'm still sad to see it end.
