Cosplay: Mera

sg
This striking photo is of cosplayer Adam West (no, not that one) dressed as a spot-on Mera while breastfeeding her daughter, who was also cosplaying (as Princess Leia). There's a whole bunch of hugger-mugger going on about breastfeeding in public, and this photo ended up on the website She Knows for an article tackling the subject.

There are/were very, very few superhero Moms in comics. And while I'm perfectly happy there is no Aqua-Baby in the New 52 continuity, there probably wasn't enough story attention paid to Mera when she was a mom, since it was such a unique position in comics, then or now.

Thanks for sharing the photo Adam!

Okay, I'll admit it: The snickering 12 year old that lives barely under the surface in me wants to make a juvenile comment, but the adult parent version of myself won't let me.

Plus, Cindy would whack me upside the head if I did.

I'll say "Great costumes!", and leave it at that.

Wow. There is a LOT going on with that image. The costumes are beautiful (as are the people). Mera/Adam has a scary kind of intensity to her face that is somewhat undercut by the child standing in the folding chair beside her. I find it hard to look away.

It's also hard to look away 'cause there's a cosplayer with her boob out. :)

"Why no, I'm not a parent, why do you ask?"

Seriously, this is a wonderful photo. Breastfeeding needs to be less shocking in our society than it currently is. I'm in favor of anything that helps that cause.
