Classic JLA by Kevin Maguire

sg
Kevin Maguire, one of my favorite comic book artists growing up, never got much of an opportunity to draw the classic Justice League, since his stint with the team was almost exclusively during its JLI phase. So you can guess I'm a big fan of this piece, a version of the classic cover pose that he himself started with Justice League #1!

No one draws faces like Maguire. You sometimes have to question why Hal is snarling, or why Wonder Woman looks so bored, but you can't deny each Leaguer has his own distinct face here.

What's Maguire doing these days?

Yep. You can pretty much tell what each hero is thinking based on their expression.

Superman: "Why do I hang out with these losers?"

Batman: "Must maintain image as grim avenger of the night!"

Wonder Woman: "Arthur has a trident. Why am I stuck with a stupid rope?"

Atom: "They might laugh at my powers, but I'm perfect for licensing in the toy industry."

Flash: "I wonder how long Atom can hold on till I reach the speed of sound?"

Aquaman: "I wonder if I could telepathically control sushi after someone's already eaten it...."

Hawkman: "Must copy Batman's image as grim avenger of the night!"

Green Lantern: "Damn! That popcorn kernel is really wedged in my molar."

Martian Manhunter: "I just read all of their thoughts. Pathetic."
