Adventure Comics #273 - June 1960

sg
Comics Weekend "Around The World in 80 Hours!" by Robert Bernstein and Ramona Fradon.

It's Adventure Sunday!

Mike Todd steps in to guest-write this month's Aquaman:

Aquaman commands some giant squid to shoot ink at the dive-bombing planes, causing them to crash into the water. With the police about to take them away, Aquaman is ready to resume his journey!

But it doesn't take long before another group of baddies called Smugglers Incorporated attack, firing torpedoes at our heroes. But once again, Aquaman reaches out to some finny friends:

...and so ends another adventure for Aquaman and Aqualad!

This charming adventure feels more like the kind of thing the Aquaman of the early 1950s, when the Sea King was off doing favors for various Surface Dwellers. I absolutely love Fradon's intro panel as well, it kicks the story off in high gear like a good splash page should!

Smugglers, Incorporated make their(?) first, last, and only appearance in this story. Going by their cool branding, I would have liked to seen them again. Being a random smuggler is one thing, but these guys(?) took the time to create a whole organization, I think there might have been something there.

Looks like Aqualad is starting his own "Ballad of the Flesh-Colored Glove" song! It looks to be miscolored throughout the story!

Hmm... from the Suez Canal portions of the story, is this the first time we've seen someone Black in an Aquaman story?

Re: Superboy: Exposure to a meteor's radiation gives some random one-shot kid superpowers, which (of course) proves problematic.
