I think images like *THIS* are why Super Friends made people think Aquaman is an awful character. :-(
Making him do these sort of stunts may have seemed fun and playful to the writers -- wouldn't most people do something like this if you could live underwater and control all sea life? You're down there all day, what else are you gonna do? -- but because they were never contrasted with him doing something truly superheroic, he really took a hit.
