Splash Page Saturday: Aquaman #51

sg
I might be cheating a little bit here, because this installment of Splash Page Saturdays doesn't really feature a "splash page" at all!

But when I look at this page, I can't help but think that Jim Aparo composed it to work as one giant piece, reminiscent of the mosaic sequences seen in films of the time like The Thomas Crown Affair and The Boston Strangler, both of which were out around the time this book was published.

Of course, it's possible that I'm totally wrong--writer Steve Skeates' scripts tended to be wordy, so maybe Aparo realized he simply couldn't fit everything in if he devoted a whole page for the splash. But who cares really? Any excuse to show off Jim Aparo Aquaman art is good enough!

This may be my favorite era for Aquaman.
