Cover to Cover: Starman #43

sg
Aquaman manages to squeeze his mug into this JLA group shot, during their guest appearance in Starman #43 (June 1998). Considering that he doesn't appear at all inside the comic itself, this cover might hold the record for the slightest Sea King cameo ever!

You know artists just LOVED having to put the Electric Blue Superman in there. "I get to draw/paint the JLA, and I'm stuck with Power Smurf!!!"

Of course, I guess that some would say the same for Aqua-Hook and Kyle Rayner too...

I loved the Starman series. Something about its general quirkiness always appealed to me...

With that being said, though, I do remember being so excited when this one came out that Aquaman was in it, and disappointed when I realized he wasn't actually IN the comic, just on the cover.

that 1998 cover is screaming with the DCU in the 90s (duh!): Electric-Blue Supes, Wondy's mom as Wonder Woman, beard and harpoon Aquaman, Kyle as GL, Wally West as the fastest man alive...no question about Barry Allen, this Starman of course. Bats and J'onn no real change. Bats was probably wearing the no blue suit.
