Aquaman Art Gallery: Grailee

sg
I dig this redesign of Aquaman by the artist Grailee. As they mention on their DeviantArt page, this version is greatly inspired by the PAD era of the Sea King, leaning heavily on the fantasy elements of the character.

Art-wise, I detect just a slight Frank Miller influence, in the relative lack of detail, preferring to let blocks of color tell the story, which I think is quite effective. As nice-looking as it is, though, with all the acoutrement Arthur is rocking I would not want to have to draw this particular version of him page after page!

Also, I like the boots. The hand, for my taste, is too funky and I love capes, but...come on. No. The crown is nice. Hate the guantlet. HATE IT. Take away the spikes and it goes to "Eh?"

Overall, I'd say that I would only read "Final Fantasy Aquaman" over here if he were in an elseworlds Justice League one shot. It's not horrible, but...Wait...Is that a 70's leisure suit collar? No.

No, No,No.

Definitely an interesting take!

I like it quite a bit. The design looks like a "mighty sea sorceror/warrior" Aquaman who might pop up in a Studio Ghibli/Hayao Miyazaki film.
