Splash Page Saturday: Reis/Prado/Reis

sg
By now, everyone has heard the news that the team of Ivan Reis, Joe Prado, and Rod Reis are departing Aquaman for Justice League, one of the few books on DC's slate that outsells the Sea King.

Of course, everyone at the Aquaman Shrine is happy for the boys over this news--it's undoubtedly a promotion (and a richly deserved one)--but we can't help but imagine what's next for Aquaman, both the book and character. The poor guy's been through a lot.

I guess we'll all know What's Next soon enough, so for now I thought we'd take a look back at some of my favorite moments from Reis/Prado/Reis' first year on Aquaman, which was a bigger success than anyone (including DC, I bet) could have expected:

This retrospectiv is premature i think, the last issue of their run hasnt even come out yet has it?

This is some beautiful work.

Derek, the last issue has NOT come out yet, no.

Rob, I saw the announcement of the artists going over to JLA, but I haven't seen anything about who is coming to AQUAMAN. Is it possible they will do both, or are they definitely leaving?

This reminds me thay Reis' cover work was his weakest point.
Not much story communicated but a lot of gritting teeth for sure!

@Russell--No, they are definitely leaving Aquaman. DC has not announced who is taking over yet.

Agree with first comment. Theres still at least 3 or 4 issues coming from the current team. This is not teh time for "Aquaman's Lament" LOL

On the one hand, this is sad news for AQUAMAN, as this art team is among, if not the best working group at DC right now. On the other hand, this team is so, sooo much better than Jim Lee that it should make JUSTICE LEAGUE the book it deserves to be instead of the mess it has been of late.

As for the Reis/Prado/Reis replacements... Pete Woods is filling in for issue #14. Maybe he'll come aboard permanently. I've also heard speculation that Eddy Barrows (formerly of NIGHT WING) might come aboard AQUAMAN.

Of course, if I could have my pick, it would be JH Williams III (BATWOMAN) or Francis Manapul (THE FLASH). Considering those guys are co-writing their respective titles now, however, it might not work. So what about Jesus Saiz, who pencilled the Aquaman/Etrigan team-up in THE BRAVE & THE BOLD.

Sounds like you are already predicting the books cancellation which im surprised by. Dont think it come to that.

The cover for #15 has a Pete Woods vibe to it, too, he's my guess for the new permanent artist still. Seen more than a few people wishfully believing Reis will stay on Aquaman as well, but come on, the guy's really fast, but no one's that fast.

This is def one of the best comics on the stands! A great fusion of writing and art that makes for a very exciting read. I can't wait to see who will be next up after Reis & Prado exit

I've really enjoyed this last year of Aquaman, and I think it stands as both an instant classic and a highlight in Aquaman's history.

I'm hopeful that another great art team will come aboard next, but it will be tough to match the work of Reis/Prado/Reis. It should most definitely improve the look of Justice League, which is a plus.
