Who's Who in The DC Universe Ad - 1985

sg
This double-page spread (click to embiggen) ran in one of the DC Sampler promo comics DC put out at the time. While visually it's kind of a dull piece (think what Ira Schnapp or Gaspar Saladino would have done with something like this!), it's of course awesome that Aquaman is the centerpiece of the ad, as he was in the first issue.

I was so excited when DC mentioned they were going to do a new Who's Who series a couple of years ago, but it seemed to just disappear. A victim of the New 52?

I was thinking the same thing about the new "Who's Who," and when I went back and read a later announcement they decided to transform it into the DC Universe Legacies series instead.

I still recall finding Who's Who #1 in my Christmas stocking that year. I somehow missed any announcements for this. I thought it was the greatest thing ever. Like the MU Handbook, but much more fun!!!

Yah, I had so much fun reading this series. It was a blast. I remember thinking then how amazing it was that everyone in the DCU was an "olympic level athlete"... Even as a kid that struck me as odd. What about the goofy nerds like me who wanted to be a superhero???

I have a few issues of this series (think I found the Aquaman issue), which were rather inclusive (least until they decided to write about the then-brand-new John Byrne Superman instead of also including an entry for the Silver Age one, oddly. Guess DC's always liked to Orwellian-ly burn its bridges with its reboots...). It even has entries for Mister Mind, the Golden Age Mr. Mxyztplk (and his Silver Age version), and the Zoo Crew members!

Wonder if Black Jack has an entry in the "B"s...

No Blackjack. Who's Who was a victim of coming out during and after Crisis. Many early entries referenced Superman's Fortress of Solitude, but there was never an entry for it, because the Byrne revamp eliminated it. I was a firm believer there should have been three Superman entries. The gave the Earth-Two Superman one. Byrne's Superman was NOT the Earth-One version.
