Aquaman #12 Original Cover Art

sg
The original to this Mera-centric cover for Aquaman #12 comes courtesy F.O.A.M.er Ray DeForest, whose collection of original comic art is truly a wonder to behold. (I keep lurking outside Ray's house in my Beagle Boys domino mask, but I have yet to find a way in)

Here's the published version, by Martin Egeland and Howard Shum:

Ray also contributed the custom-made pillows for yesterday's post, so he's on a real roll during Mera Month. Thanks Ray!

This is one of my favorite covers from my Aquaman centric collection. She looks sexy, evil, conniving and more. They really captured her on this one. Love me some MERA!

I thought Martin Egeland in general did a really good job with Mera on this run. Some of his other characters looked oddly proportional, or stood/posed in what appeared to be in very uncomfortable positions, but I thought his take on Mera was solid.

Ok... this is by far, the WORST... in my oppinion... visual of Mera.

I've been an Aquaman fan for about 20 years, and while I'm certainly not the foremost authority on everything Mera... I HAVE read and seen 99.9% of the A-man mythos (which IS where Mera resides).... and I just find this VISUAL of Mera... well... just bad bad drag.
I dunno... It's just really REALLY my least fav pic of her...well... ever.

Oooops... I really should have mentioned that my top 3 female heroines are...
1) Vixen
2) Mera
and
3) HawkWOMAN.

Just wanted to let you know that my response to this image of Mera is STRICTLY visual.

:)
